Hello Nik and welcome to the forum.
You could pronounce *ist as first, as this was Pentax's first digital single lens reflex camera.

Welcome to the forum!
I pronounce it as the letters, ignoring the *. I think most people do too.
The DL2 was the last in the line, so hardly the first.

I hope that is a tongue-in-cheek reply .You could pronounce *ist as first, as this was Pentax's first digital single lens reflex camera.

Pentax DA* = DA(STAR)...so I just got a *ist DL2...
How do folks pronounce that, by the way, the *ist bit?
Zeiss T* Lens = T(STAR)
In MS DOS *.* is a Wild card and is pronounced (STAR)(DOT)(STAR)
There was also a DOS Magazine called "STAR-DOT-STAR"
See link
So *ist must be (STAR)IST
Bit too complicated for the average Pentax User!
Half Man... Half Pentax ... Half Cucumber
Pentax K-1 + K-5 and some other stuff

I shot some monochrome back in the 80s with a Zenit and later a Spotmatic F. But all that fell by the wayside along with some life changes around 1990.
In the 90s I used a 35mm bridge - the original Olympus Supazoom - for family and holiday snaps.
In the 00s I moved to digital, first with a little Coolpix and later with a Fujifilm bridge model. Gradualy I have moved from basic family and holiday snaps towards more arty family and holiday snaps.
Recently my uncle passed away and left me most of his collection of old Pentax gear: several Spotmatic bodies, a K1000, K2, ME, SFn(?) and lots of bits & pieces. I traded most of it in for a new Pentax X70 - probably a bad move. Actually this little bridge is great in anything but low light.
Recently I got inspired to try some more serious wildlife and landscape photography and dug out my uncle's remaining bits: A Spotmatic SPII with 55mm lens and 135mm and 200mm prime lenses, 42mm to K converter; tripod. I don't want to shoot film. The SPII I'll keep for sentimental reasons.
The *ist DL2 seemed to be the cheapest way to get a digital body to use with these lenses and, well, we'll see how it goes.
Cheers!
