Newbie composition advise sought

It is a very attractive picture, I think it would benefit by removing a large amount from the top. I understand why you have kept the top of the hood in but there is too much forehead which stops me looking at the rest of his face. I wouldn't agonise too much over it.

the composition is not bad, but not that good either... but the lighting is nice. the exposure looks good. The expression is lovely.
Just an all round nice shot. Most parents would be very happy to get shots like that.

I am quite an in-experienced photographer after some advise. I took this photo about 2 years ago of my son and although it's my son the photo stood out above all the others to me that I took. Can I get some advise on why this photo stood out to me. Is the composition good or is it just because it's me son that I like the photo so much ? Not worried to much about colours/sharpening only the composition,
