New website - would appreciate some feedback

After using Clikpic for a few years I've decided it's time for a refresh and I've consequently swapped providers to Zenfolio. I'd appreciate some feedback on the functionality, image display etc if you have 5 minutes to have a quick look through.

Initial look through is fast enough to load. The header on the pages isn't formatting properly - your surname is displaced over other text.

Where you wanted to underline that lunch is not included in the photography day the formatting hasn't worked.

I'll have another look now!

Images in the galleries load quickly and that's excellent. The buttons to move forward and backwards through the images are not in a particularly intuitive place. By the sides of the image would seem more logical. They are top right and detached from the area where are attention should be riveted.

Nice design and images, I cant help but think the about me on the index page is a wasted SEO opportunity. seeing as you have an about me page a;ready.

Have you considered putting key search phrases in there in white text as opposed to about you info, so search engines can pick them up and the viewer cant see them??

Had a look at the forward/back buttons but it seems I can't relocate them although hopfeully with a quick look around people will pick them out, slideshow option should helkp with navigation too I think

Gary, I see what you mean about the text on the home page...think I'll reduce it slightly and make it a little more keyword orientated although I've read that Google is now much more aware of obvious keyword use for ranking so it needs to be more subtle these days.

Any more suggestions/feddback would be appreciated

Looks very good Simon, definitely an improvement over the old one, like John said the backward and forwards buttons are not in the best of places but apart from that its a pleasure to look at.

A couple of comments :

1. You need to correct this : Payment by cheque is also possible, please contact me to for details.

2. It loads fast because you are using Low-Res versions, this has it's own issues as some of the shots look 'noisier' than they otherwise would with hi-res versions (or higher res versions should I say).

3. It's a bit strange that if people want an express delivery (24 hrs) then they should contact you by email first - that would seem to be mutually exclusive

Not here. Only home page doesn't wrap around header over the menu div

Need to have a think about the header on the main pages...about flash on Zenfolio , from their site...

Had another go with the header on the sub pages, reduced the text size slightly..any better guys?

Thanks, very useful....the noisy shots are probably those taken with my K10D I'll work my way through and upload higher quality jpgs for those that look to be affected

Working on the shipping options too, I'll be adding the additional "express" option to the checkout pretty soon

It's a good looking site with good looking photos. Here are some thoughts:

On the front page if I move a cursor onto the photos it changes into a hand, but if I click nothing happens. So it appears it doesn't work, even though I might not expect anything to happen.

The all photography galleries page seems a little superfluous, since it results in two clicks to get to a gallery rather than one click from the drop down menu. That idea could instead maybe be incorporated into the home page.

In the galleries I find the thumbnails too small. Also I have st scroll to fit the whole page on screen (my monitor is a 22" widescreen). The photo fits on fine but I have to scroll down to see the title, which I can't be bothered to do for every photo.

Does every single photo need a copyright announcement, since they are watermarked anyway, a general copyright announcement somewhere might suffice.

Hi Simon, I broadly agree with Dr. O's comments above. I do like the site, but the thing that strikes me more than the actual site design is the quality of the images.

I do think some elements of the design are a little clunky and maybe just a little old-fashioned looking, like for example the frames around the images and the way the thumbnails and next image button are presented.

Having said all that, it's streets ahead of my website (mainly the image quality I think) and should serve you well. I particularly like the section that covers your published work, but again this is more due to the content than the design, maybe this is just my personal preference.
