New software available

Pentax do not tend to communicate directly with their customers.
The new software has been available for a while and is a definite improvement. However, it is still much less useful than good commercial software, and most RAW shooters will prefer to pay for Capture One or Silkypix, or use Adobe.
If the firmware upgrade caused problems, you can bet people would have complained loudly. I am sure you are safe to download it. I find the easiest way to install upgrades is by loading them onto the card.

Is the new Pentax software not powered by Silkypix?
If it is why spend money buying Silkypix?

The new software uses Silkypix technology, but it is not Silkypix. It has about one tenth of the functionality.

when installing the new firmware which support the sd hc cards is the image counter going to be reset?
Another question is, does it then only support sd hc cards of 4gb and above or does it allso support normal 4 gb sd cards?
I don't think that I will use cards larger then 1 or 2 gb's, but I am wondering if I should update or not.

It is a free download and installs over the old version, I think you'll find it a lot better than the old version with a lot of enhancements.
I own a *ist DL2 camera and have noticed a firmware update on the US site, I haven't installed this yet, has any-one installed this 1.02 version yet?
I have registered my camera so why are we not being kept up-to-date by Pentax?
