New road map?

I'm told this is the latest road map..

Pentax seem to be busy undoing the "crop factor" on their new lenses, for instance.: DA*55/1.4 instead of the FA*85 and DA35 instead of the FA50.
Also the DA35 will have SDM. Alos the DA 70-300 will be a DA 55-300.

Now where's my lottery ticket........

Well contrary to what a lot of people have been saying this was on the cards all along. That's probably why there is such a lack of decent wides for the 'APS-C' size sensor cameras.

Things will change faster now if it's true that Nikon is about to go full-frame /near full-frame with the DX3 curtesy of Sony for the sensor. If this is true expect most makers to follow suit apart from Olympus/Panny/leica.

Well, Pentax has surprised us quite a lot recently, what with the high spec and low price of the K10D, and the low (these things are relative) prices of the new 2.8 zooms.

However, I don't see why people are assuming these new lenses will be suitable for a 24X36mm sensor. Such lenses are normally designated D-FA.

I notice they haven't stated what the maximum aperture of the DA35 will be.....

Does anybody know if these new SDM lenses will still work with the in-camera AF motor of the *istD, for instance?

Honestly I think Pentax have made it VERY clear they will not be bringing a 35mm sensor out. They have just redesigned there whole lens lineup to suit APS size sensors. People dreaming of a 35mm sensor should swap to Canon if its so important to them.

what I'm still waiting for is a DA standard prime which doesn't cost the earth. Something about 30-35mm, F2 or faster and less than £200

The DA 35 is on the roadmap, but I'd expect it to be a little more expensive. In the meantime, the 35/2 Super Tak can be had pretty cheaply, as can the Vivitar 28/2.

I'd snap up a Super Tak if it wasn't for the difficulties the K10D metering system has with old lenses. I'm using a Zeiss Flektogon F2.4 at the moment (again with metering issues). Optically it's great but it lacks that little bit more speed which stands the 50mm apart from the crowd.

I recognise that a 35mm is harder to make than a 50mm because of the size of the mirror box getting in the way. Still I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a 35 F2 at a similar price to the FA 50 F1.4. Afterall Sigma are managing to produce their 30 F1.4 at a pretty reasonable price. I'm tempted by that one it has to be said.

But I noticed that the FA 35 F2.0, which has a superb reputation, is once again available, both from SRS and Park Cameras for £279. And I've only recently picked up a secondhand F 28 2.8 to use as a standard... (boxed virtually mint from Ffordes for £79) Oh the temptation to get out the Credit Card again...
