Taking the second point, this has been covered extensively in the lens section, and the conclusion is that the 16-45mm is a very superior beast.
It will out-perform your 18-55mm significantly, but only if you are making large prints or files for publication will you see the difference.

I use the Sigma 135-400 APO 4.5 great lens for its price.
Old wood best to burn, old wine to drink, old friends to trust, and old authors to read.

I am very pleased with my Sigma 135-400 APO (non DG version). It's light and easy to use on the K10D.
16-45mm v 18-55mm . . . search the forum, the question has been asked, and answered, many times before. If you have any doubts after tah, ask yourself why the 16-45mm might cost 3 times more than the 18-55mm.

if you're looking for something a little less pricey, the Pentax SMC-FA 80-320 is a great lens for the price. I am using it right now in Canada as my long tele, it compliments the K10D very well.
Saying that, I am also considering getting a Sigma 135-400, or maybe it's big brother the 170-500. With SR these lengths are reasonably hand holdable (given good technique) so suddenly they have become much more interesting.

Just noticed in issue 2 2007 Pentax User Club Mag on page 5 classified adds there is a sigma 135-400mm Boxed for sale £150.
Doesn't say if its APO or not but very good value at that price.
The contact no is 0121 588 2650

I am in the market for a new lens with a zoom up to 300/400mm can anyone reccommend one Tamron/sigma or old pentax
I was also looking at the 16-45mm but how good is this lens compared to the 18-55 kit lens. Is there really a noticable difference and what is it quality wise ??
Best advise for quality images
