To add, if you buy from Amazon (directly, not through a third party) they will normally allow you to return it postage free. But do check.

For windows8 ... is a touchscreen display advantageous? Have never used this OS yet (nor has anyone in my family for that matter) but willing to give it a go. This will be a family used machine that will also be used for photo editing
Looking at a well spec'd 17 inch AZUS but it hasnt got a touchscreen. WOuld prefer the larger screen but would drop to 15.6 if touchscreen was a must have for windows8

I work with computers and have used many different laptops over the past 6 or 7 years and this one is by far the best I have used.

Windows 8 was designed for touch screen but is fully functioning desktop OS. I fought against it for a while but it is easily the fastest OS I have seen and has been totally reliable with no crashes, which is unusual for me 'cos I like to mess Plus every legacy programme I own, including Battlefield 1942, works flawlessly, which is impressive and useful. Big thumbs up for Windows 8 from me.

I have this machine, best laptop I've had to date for all the reasons David has noted, I upgraded to 12Gb ram with simply asus, arrived the day after i ordered and i didn't opt for next day delivery, so great service too.http://www.simplyasus.com/ASUS_N56VM-S4089V_1352938.html

Excellent quality hi res screen and good cooling too, which i don't think has been mentioned.
I run LR4.4 and photoshop CS4.

Short answer is Yes. When you start the comp you are shown the touch screen icons but a press of the windows key or click of the desktop icon takes it to normal desktop. For some reason the start button is now missing but I soon got used to that.So Gravelrash ...you use it fine without touchscreen then?
It felt like change for the sake of it, and it probably was, but after getting acclimatised you could give me a job in the Windows 8 Marketing Dept. I wouldn't let a decision between 7 or 8 bother you. Probably best focusing on the hardware.
