New K10d user Need all rounder

hello there i a after an all rounder lens

Pentax smc DA 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 ED AL IF Lens any good for my needs?
Sigma 55-200mm DC Lens

if so what elsce could you recomend

an all rounder lens could be the tamron 18-200mm, at about £180, my fav lens check out my portfolio for pics,
also the tamron 18-250mm is suppose to be very good.
but in a mag review the tamron 28-300mm come out very well, and i have seen pics taken with this lens and they are very good but the last 2 lenses are pricier, as is the pentax 18-250mm.
depends on how much you wanna spend and what you shoot.

The tamron and the pentax are basicly the same in construction but the pentax has some better coatings I've been told, they are pretty good lenses for there range but don't expect amazing things from them they are only good nothing special.

You also said the sigma 55-200, there is an Pentax 55-300 also on the market and that one will preform better then the 18-250 or 18-200 and it has quick-shift which I'm also really missing.

but in the end it really depends on what you need since 50mm isn't really wide so what do you want to do with the lens?

I do hope everybody reading the above posted "so called" test results, from that so called unbiased magazine take it with a huge pinch of salt.

If you think thats bad you should have seen the review they gave to the 50-135.

Either they got a dodgy copy or the Canikon lenses must have been brilliant - and having seen some pics with the 50-135 I'm not sure the Canikon lenses were any better.

The thing is that particular magasine IMO is terrible at reviews.

i will be using the camera for street work and when i go travelling the ocasional safari,and shots of buildings etc so an all rounder is needed am i right in thinking the pentax 18-250 will be better than the tamron?

Here are two reveiws on both I have the Tam 70/300 and love it.

will take a look think i may go for the sigma 18-200 as an all rounder but what could i have that would be good in low light

just read the revies looks like the tamron was better than the pentax i am shocked

Im not they make some cracking good lenese you also need to consider price as well.

The above was taken with the Tam 70/300 I think if you do a search you can pick it up for around £90 or even less. Only problem is you will not have the scope at the wide end of the lens compared to an 18 250.

so do you use a 18-55 lens for your other shots?
i was after an all in 1 as i travekl a lot and dont want to swap lenses all the time looking at about £400 mark new or used

If you get a 18/250 there is no need for the change you have all the bases coverd which is the whole idea. I tend to stick my sigma 17/70 on one camera and the Tamron 70/300 on the other that way I cover quite a focal range. I also have the sigma 10/20 so I can vary things. For four hundred pounds you will have over a hundred pound change.
