New forum Style

We've already covered this ground and I can't comment on every aspect of what you are writing. I've mentioned a few points that I thought I could be helpful with. Calling people idiots is not helpful and doesn't endear you to anyone either.
If you have a specific problem it can be addressed in the normal way. If you just don't like the new forum and are determined not to like it regardless, then it's difficult to find a way forward from that.

This is not the problem. My "system" hasn't been fixed, as it wasn't "broken".e-mail notifications are working for me. Is your e-mail address correctly recorded and have your preferences carried across OK? It might be worth double checking your profile.

I admit I do not visit the competition or the gallery much. I liked seeing the photos of people I "know" from the forum, but the gallery is full of first time posters who never make it to the forum, which is a shame. Because of that I visit it less, and so also miss the competition. There has been no thread started for chat on the comp, in the forum, something which seemed to automatically follow the new competition every week in the old format.
There is less banter, because there are less photos and I feel fewer people are contributing to the forum now. I miss some of the regulars. I know it is holiday time and some will be away, but surely not everyone is away at the same time?
I noticed the same, and I am afraid the new format is to blame for that. It just doesn't feel like home anymore. I still try to join competitions, but a lot of joy from the past is missing in my perception. Still no notification system from new posts over there, etc.....I admit I do not visit the competition or the gallery much. There are still a lot of things that need repair. I noticed ( and this really annoys me ) that after you mark all threads as read, you can come back after an hour and when you hit the new post button the same posts are blinking green again.
Of course they aren't new.
I can only conclude that at this moment, I don't know if I want to renew my subscription and continue to participate here.
I keep on hoping things might change for the better.......
Martin.

All I can suggest is make sure that the IT department knows that you are still experiencing faults and what they are. A detailed report will give them that info.
They may not be aware for example that sometimes a thread previously read will still be indicated as unread and a new post. If we mention it in a thread as here it may get missed because they are busy correcting and developing what they are aware of and may not have time to browse every message just in case.
I hope you will stay around and not leave because the decorating has been done! Everyone is still the same and it's people that matter most.

I think the web developers have gone home. Not much has changed recently that I can tell. I posted a report at the end of July and as yet have had no response.
I've posted another today, we'll see what happens.
EDIT: Well the web team are still working and I got a message to say that the 20 minute window for editing posts has been removed. This edit confirms that it works.
Thanks to the web team.

I don't think they have. I got a message regarding one of my reports which gave me cause for cautious optimism.I think the web developers have gone home.
Trying not to count chickens, though.

You will be pleased to know that we have removed the 20 minute edit restriction from editing of comments.
In regards to the 'edited by' message we have not removed this as we do not see this change to have any advantage.

Just to be clear, I had been arguing for no 'edited by' message only if there were no posts following the edited message, since it serves no purpose.
But I think we're getting there, bit by bit.

I just received this message from the webdev team:-
Quote:
We have changed the PM icon so it displays the number of unread messages and stays gold if there are any unread.
I've also asked for the return of the "You have a new message" pop-up box.

I wouldn't blame this application for everything! Just tell IT what the problem is, in proper detail, and they will sort it out for you. An accurate desription of the fault without contradictions is helpful.
I don't think anyone is seeing threads and posts mergining into a single blob of text, so a fuller explanation of that will also help.
The place to put the information is in a Report, and bear in mind that it won't get looked at probably till Monday.
You're also selectively commenting on my posts which removes the context of them and doesn't address the fundamental problems with this application. I certainly don't blame the application, I blame the idiot whose idea it was to implement it.
