Hey. I'm a "Site Veteran" with these stats: "43 posts
Joined: 14/11/2007"

I'm here regularly and all for some 1½ year now but don't feel a need to post very often. You stand the risk of loosing my bargain tips!

They did say a minimum of XX to post - not read so you would still get the tip off!

It would take some thought by members, making sure they really only post bargains, end of lines &c.

This does sound like a good idea but to exclude a whole swathe of people that don't have over 50 posts seems a bit exclusive & doesn't send the right signals to newer members. Could second Oggy's suggestion, make it members only?

Snappycaz - members only being able to post would allow the type of abuse that has resulted in spam PMs being sent to members. Put a limit maybe as low as 10 before a member can post and you will stop the chancers. And any members can read.

All we need now is to twist JRs arm and then the main admin team.

I didn't realise there had been an issue before. That's what comes of being a newbie. Maybe the lower limit suggested (10 posts) is more realistic.

As the proud spotter of the J*****s grip, I would certainly support a separate section.

Still thinking John?

Could we , perhaps, trial the suggestion for 6 weeks or so to see how it works out?

Regarding eBay - one of us might be stalking a bargain and then it gets plastered all over this topic and the bargain is gone. If one of us is selling on eBay it's not uncommon to announce this so that those who might benefit through a purchase can do so.

Just a thought.

Also I was a member of a forum some years ago where they banned advertising and I amongst others argued it should be allowed. There were dire warnings that it could change the nature of the forum but under pressure they allowed it. I am afraid it did change the forum for the worse and once the geneie is out of the bottle ...

Just a suggestion of course. As I understand the problem is: Commercial advertising could or probably will arise in the Classifieds section, yes?

What if bargain tips as a topic is made Sticky in the General Digital Photography section. The chance would be much smaller to attract those adds over there. (Do they search the whole forum, or do they go straight for the obvious, which is The Classifieds)

The topic could be named less conspicuous , to attract even less attention. The forum members will find it soon enough. And you have to click once for Notification, so after that you won't miss a thing that is posted.

Or am I talking nonsense now....

Martin.

Best regards,

Martin.

If anyone wants to start a thread in General Chat then I'll make it a Sticky and we can see what happens.

I'd suggest that you don't clutter it up with replies otherwise no-one will see the wood for the trees!

If it works, I'll suggest the forum idea to Admin.

How does that sound?
Best regards, John

I think that's a cracking compromise; let's do it!
