When you say "red", do you mean the preview picture on the rear LCD of the camera?
The K-m (like most digital cameras these days) has an option to show you which parts of the picture are over / under exposed - by colouring them red on the preview. This option can be switched on and off in the menus. The areas of red shown on the warning aren't part of the actual picture file, so if you take the photos off the camera and onto your PC you'll see that they're gone.
This certainly isn't a fault, it's quite an important feature; but if you're new to DSLR photography it'd probably be better to start with it switched off and come back to it later once you have a few of the more basic controls under your belt.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for this it was worrying me a little the red highlights it looks like as you state are there not in the preview window but on the end result,it looks like it had been in photoshop but they were there on the PC and not at all in the preview window which is disturbing
I have just reset to factory settings and it seems to have cured it.I must explain I bought this camera yesterday and it was the last one and had been on display so it is possible that people have been playing around with the settings.
Thanks hefty appreciate your prompt reply and explaination
Better get back to the manual now
Thanks again

Just to reiterate my thanks all done now and just getting used to the new camera ,chose this over a Canon Eos 1000..I think I have made the right choice.
I am new here so if I need adcvice on flashgun for my camera is it here or a new thread ?
Excuse the newbie type question.....some people claim the old SLR flash guns will work I am not so sure so at present looking for a DSLR flash.
Thanks in advance

To ensure I have not put it on a wrong setting I took some pics with the auto settting on but all the pictures are red in places and in a big way I wonder if anyone can help or comment
I have had one opinion from one person not here and they mentioned solorization
Which means nothing to me
Thanking you in advance
David
