New 560mm minimum focus distance

I think Sony face a bit of a dilemna with the new FF camera. If they keep the translucent lens tech they basically have a cmaera that RESTRICTS the amount of light to the sensor (photography is all about light no?).

if they go back to a Pentaprism they are saying the SLT isnt good enough for a pro camera.

I hope Pentax dont go down this route in the near future.

A 500 on FF has a FOV wider than on APS, yes? Effective FOV on an APS is that of 750mm. It don't matter what the sensor size is, the actual magnification of the lens won't change. So a sparrow shot with APS or FF will be the same size at the same distance as far as the actual bird size on the image is concerned. The remaining image will either show more or less dependent upon sensor size.

We really need to refrain from imagining that a cropped sensor and long lens gets you closer than a FF with the same lens.

As mentioned by Alan, "560mm will give you a decent sized shot of a Sparrow or similar at about 5 metres, cut that down to 4 and you'd struggle to get the bird in the frame". Not on a FF you won’t.

Ah but the new 560mm is a DA lens, so talking about what it will give on a Full Frame body is pointless

It was only a general comment Alan, possibly Pentax being the exception. Sigma et al do the needful and make a FF optic for the longer end of the lenses.
Still, it will be interesting once it’s released to see how many use it and then invest in a suitable mount etc to go with it.
