Neewer Horizontal Tripod (Spring Offer)

Quite extraordinary value! The Neewer TP27 73.6" Horizontal Tripod package. All for £112 inc P.& P. For any ancients among you who do a lot of macro in the garden and have difficulty getting down (and up) for the low shots - this may well be the answer - I'll report in due course if it solves this geriatic's problems. Ordered Tuesday, arrived today. I am impressed. I received the offer via email, but think their web site is Neewer.com ??

Good luck with it. I've been using a Benbo trekker tripod for years. It has the same sort of flexibility as the Neewer. As a result, I can confirm that such tripods are great for supporting the camera for low level macro.

However, I can also confirm that they do not make it any easier for a human of a certain age to get either down or up. You're on your own for that bit!

Ah but if you use a field monitor you don't need to get down. that's what I am hoping anyway ...........

I agree with the desire (I don't bend any more either) but even with some sort of remote viewing/ tethering device you still have to get down there and adjust the thing so it is pointing in the right direction. I look forward to a report on how it performs.

What we folks of a certain age really need is a small but robust geared head mounted on crossed focus racks on a lifter and all motorised and remote controlled. Once the camera is mounted and low down, you can do all the positioning and adjustments from the comfort of a deck chair. Perhaps it already exists (motorised focus racks for focus stacking certainly do) but I've never come across one .

Sounds like a project for one of those 'crowdfunded' ventures.

I can see where this is going, us men of a certain age need an assistant, male/female it matters not, who will transport you to proposed photographic site, set up your equipment, wheel you across then raise you up to see through the viewfinder, once happy with the set up you will use a remote to trigger the shutter. Assistant will dismantle equipment, wheel you back to your car and you will be returned to your home. Having downloaded and printed your? efforts you will show them to your wife, without looking at your efforts, she will then announce "very nice dear" and carry on with the ironing.

I spoke too soon, though. Should have searched that interwebby thing. Motorised pan and tilt already exists (e.g. link and various other-brand cheapo versions). Add crossed motorised focus racks and all that's now needed is a motorised lifter. Come to think of it, if you sling it all from the end of a boom on a tripod that's fixed at the mid-point, you could adjust the height by simply pushing the free end of the boom up and down without needing to get out of the deck chair.

So that's the concept. Now we just need to persuade Age UK to take it on and turn it into a practical reality that can be afforded by a person on a pension .

A personal assistant might be an easier alternative - and they could also make the pot of tea.

Sounds like Artificial Intelligence would be more than useful.
Just tell a computer what picture you want and hey presto! It's there before your very eyes....

But can it make a pot of tea??
