Not all the M42 adapters allow infinity focus, so the original Pentax one is the best option, for all the reasons stated.

I've been using a half dozen Roxsen M42 adapters for several years. They allow infinity focus. The first thing I did was Locktite the screw that holds the spring. I realise most folks won't have the stuff around. But a lot of auto garages and machine shops do. I doubt they'd charge much for a drop of Locktite.
They've always mounted well and are smooth as my original adapters.

Yes Chris is a member.

As for cheap adaptors, some have a flange on that stops the lens sitting flush on the camera mount, result, loss of infinity focus.

I have one which I use for a CZJ 35mm for close up stuff, totally useless beyond 3 metres.

I would think all M42 to K adapters support infinity focus.

No. There are a lot of adapters from the Far East which have a flange that sits between the lens and the camera, thus preventing infinity focus and (on the positive side) allowing you to focus closer.

A proper adapter has no flange, and sits within the throat of the lens mount - and flush with it.

I've just payed the adapter + shipping costs to Sweden!
It ended up alot cheaper than I thought, £24.99.

In Sweden the very same adapter costs around £65, INSANE!

Thank you all for you help and information.

Is this the place to ask about lenses?
My K200D is supposed to be compatible with the old lenses I used on my SLRs.

So I must be doing something wrong, because I can't make the camera take a picture, when I have a manual focus lens on it. Is there something I have to set on the camera?

I suppose someone will say RT Flippin' M, but I have, and can't find Manual lenses mentioned. Does anyone know how this goes?
Cheers folks

John

RTFM! Seriously, there is a bit in it about "Using aperture ring" in one of the menus. On the K10D it's the custom menu.

Thanks George!

Yes I have read the manual, but I don't read French too well!
I have a disc manual in Brit-speak, but the page numbering system is non existent! I'll search for the phrase. Aperture ring..

Let you know how I get on..
Thanks my friend.

I think it's the same for the K200D as the K10D; in the Custom Menu find "Use of Aperture Ring" and change the setting to "Permitted".

Don't forget the lenses only work in (M)anual mode (with stop-down metering) and (Av)perture Priority (wide open only). The camera and the EXIF data will always show the aperture as being "F--" so don't let that throw you.

I managed to find it under 'Aperture Ring'. I was looking for manual lens!
There you go!
Thanks George.

Thanks Hefty... I found that setting too. No problems as of now! Says he hopefully!

John
