NeatImage and *istD, and memory cards

For your information...

I've just completed profiling in NeatImage 2.6 Pro+ the *istD for JPEG Large (*** and **), and TIFF Large, and have sent it to NeatImage.

They are preparing the profiles for publication... so you should be able to get them from www.neatimage.com pretty soon.

I took some ISO3200 shots, used the profile and the result is sublime. One of these days I'll post a sample of Fuji 1600ASA film versus *istD at 3200 - the difference is mind blowing

If anyone thinks other sizes should be profiled, then let me know and I'll try and sort it out.

On the subject of memory cards, I rattled together a little application to thrash a connected drive (so I could profile performance). It's very disappointing at the moment Even the IBM Microdrive on PC-card into a 2.4GHz laptop is not much faster than going straight to the *istD on USB. I have a USB 2.0 card reader on order (7dayshop for £12.99 at the moment!!), so I'll let you know the results when that's delivered. (Of course, if anyone wants to donate a 512Mb 20x or 40x CF card for trials I'll be happy to accept one )

Just spotted this post and it prompted another question. Have you any experience of, or views on, the Lexar "Write Acceleration" cards. Are they really any faster than the likes of Fuji, SanDisk etc?

Profiles are available on NeatImage (they work fast).

Sorry Lurach, no experience of Lexar WA. Having worked quite extensively with flash technologies, though mostly the SmartMedia style NAND-Flash, I suspect they do have a nice technique. However, my issue is mostly to do with the card readers.

Microdrive speed is acceptable (in camera), though in hindsight I should have plumped for a Fuji 20x 512Mb card instead, because I'm worried the drive is going to go belly up when I'm far away from a PC.

Reading data is slooooow. Hence my USB2 reader and tester software. I'll let you know as soon as I can If I get sensible results, I'll post the software on the web for general use too
