You can get the batteries at a much better price from 7DayShop
www.7dayshop.com
If it's the CR123 (I think), then they are £6.90 for a pack of 6, or £1.20 each
And they'll last ages and ages Note: they are lithium cells and have much higher capacity than normal AA cells.
(Recommendation is change every year, but I think they have a 10 year shelf life)

Thank you Matt. The batteries it takes are 2 x CR2 type. I dont know if they are the same as the ones you mention.

You need these then.
I much prefer the feel of a camera with a grip, I find it fits my hand better. But I wouldn't buy one just to be able to use AA bateries - the Lithiums are a little more expensive, but certainly not as much as buying a grip.

Thanks Daniel. £7.50 for a pack of six is great value. Makes me wonder how the shop I was in could justify charging six quid each for them!

Hello all! I have just bought a used MZ-M. The batteries for it are surprisingly expensive. (six pounds each!). I understand that a grip was available that allowed the use of AA batteries. (You can buy a dozen of those for a Quid in any pound shop). Do any of you have any experience of this item, and perhaps know where I might find one? Thanks.
I used to have the AA Batt Grip for my MZ5n which is the same one that fits the MZM. I didn't find it of much use, especially if you buy the CR2 batts from a decent cheap source. All the grip does is add an inch to the bottom of the camera and a load of extra weight (from the AA's) - and this is coming from someone that generally prefers a camera with a grip fitted.

Thanks, Spirit-of-Will. The MZ-M does feel un- nervingly light and flimsy. I thought that fitting the battery grip would add some heft to it, as well as allowing cheaper batteries to be used.
