MZ5n - Pop-up flash not popping up.

I have a problem with my MZ5n where the flash does not pop up - it is like a spring in the mechanisum has broken, there is no functional issue with the flash. This is the second time I have had this failure, the first time, some 15 years ago I think, I had the camera repaired via the shop I purchased it from.

My question is, is this now a Harrow Technical repare job or is it somethign that I can fix myself by taking the flash housing appart and re-assembling? I have the tools, but wondered if anyone else had experianced this type of failure and has any advice on attempting a self repair.

I know it's a common problem but I'm not sure if you can repair it yourself, I imagine you'll need a spare spring.

I once made a spring for my K10 grip after taking it appart to fix a stuck pin and watching one of the springs 'bounce' off the work surface ! It was quite a successfull repair!

If you search the other Pentax forum there are several threads on there about this.

Mine doesn't work either, and having taken a MZ50 apart, I'm loathe to try a repair, instead just relying on an external flash should I need one.

If you do have a go write a guide, it will be VERY popular!

I may give it a try, apparently it is due to a plastic pin that deteriorates over time. The pin can be replaced, however one post else where recommend an allowance of two hours for the repair and to be prepared for frustration and eye strain! So I would first need to obtain a new pin! Suggestions of a non working ebay purchase is a sound idea. If I do give it a go, I will document the steps!

At the risk of sounding a little mercenary, if you do and let me know I could post it on my Service Manuals site.
