MZ-60 valuation

Hi guys,

I've been asked to get rid of a MZ-60 (including an SMC Pentax FA 1:4-5.6 35-80mm lens) for a friend.

I haven't put film through it but have fitted new batteries and found that it appears to function as expected.

It looks clean enough, with no obvious scratches or damage. It has a shoulder strap, a rubber lens hood, but is missing the lens cap.

What would be a rough estimate of its value

I've just had a look on eBay and there are quite a few on offer, but not a single bid on any of them.

Clearly film cameras need to be particular models to attract interest.

I would suggest a nominal price if you can find a buyer. The lens would be usable on DSLRs, but it doesn't have anything special to commend it and probably isn't as good as the current kit lenses.

The last onessold on ebay went for between £12 and £20, thehigher priced ones having 28-90 lenses.

You could advertise it on hereand see if anybody's interested.

Apart from the MZ-s none of the MZ series seem to sell very well, I've considered selling my MZ7 on several occasions but for the pityfull prices they fetch it's not worth bothering.

It's a crying shame because many film cameras now offered for sale have been treasured possessions and well looked after. I think HG has the estimate about right, if you split them you may be lucky and get a bit more.

Split, the body would go for £5-£10,the lens would probably get £15-£20

The question is do you want to take a risk on spliting them up?

Ironically the strap is probably worth a £5 on its own (if Pentax). Things like hotshoe and viewfinder covers often have similarly high Buy-it-now prices (don't know if they sell).

Frog, why don't you explain to him the real value of the camera, and then make him an reasonable offer for it, explaining it is going to a good home and put a few rolls of Pan-F through it.

I second that, you never know, you might like film...

I still have my film cameras (4 x Minolta) so daren't aquire any more
