I have a few Pentax M42 bodies (Spotmatic SP11, Spotmatic F, ES and ES11) but have never felt the need or had the courage to start taking them apart !!

The Mk I has a Flat Head Screw and the Mk II and F have the JIS Cross Head Screws -- I got a JIS set of screwdrivers from Tokyo on Amazon years ago it came in a Japanese Newspaper with pics of Geisha Girls on it ! TODAY I went out into the Cold of BRENTWOOD testing the Mk II SMC Takumar all at FULL APERTURE using FP4+ processed in home-made ID II 1+3 dilution so I got the 'Acutance' effects and WoW - it's SHARP even in Dull Winter Light --

What a lovely trio! I have (and often use) an early Mark 1 (made in about 1964 according the chap who serviced it). I have a couple of Mark 2s which I rarely use (for no good reason) but I don't have the F.

I am still using my Dad's Spotmatic F and nothing seems to be wrong with it as far as I can see. He bought it new in 1973 and I still have the receipts. It was not cheap, not cheap at all.............
K5, K200 and several film Pentax cameras!

With the Base-plate photos the Mk II is on LEFT and Mk I on right -- I had to prop up cameras a bit !
