My first attempt at Macro

I got my first Macro lens this weekend A 50mm sigma EX 2.8 and this is my first attempt. I still havent hit that first tack sharp shot yet (and i took many) but i am working on it.


Please feel free to offer some tips

Well apart from the sharpness, I think you need to get closer. not sure here what the main feature is, looks a tad cluttered.

If I can be brutally honest, you have not chosen an ideal macro subject. You could have taken this pic with almost any non-macro lens.

Macro is about making small things look big, revealing detail that you would not otherwise see. That cannot be said about your subject.

A first macro subject would be a slow moving bug, insect, or spider where you can seee the hairs on its head or the multitude of facets making up the compound eye.

Keep practising though.

Is that wise bearing in mind Clarky's location, I am a spider lover myself but I would seriously think twice about getting close to an aussie spider

Joking apart, I think the Bird of Paradise IS a good subject for macro, but you have to get in much closer for an abstract image, As for your shot Clarky, the light is far too harsh, for subjects like this you need fairly even lighting.
