Harrow Technical for a camera of this vintage. Johnson's aren't likely to deal with classic cameras.
I have used Robin at Harrow on many occasions and he does an excellent job. Others also recommend Asahi Photo but I haven't used them.
The MX is lovely. I was using mine in NYC on Saturday loaded with 400ASA slide film and fitted with my SMC-M 100mm/f2.8.
Best wishes, Kris.

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Check the battery terminals - it may be something simple like corroded contacts in there. If it works properly but just needs a CLA then it'll probably be cheaper than if it also needs a fault investigating.
The MX is one of Pentax's finest. Great to handle, and with tactile controls that modern manufacturers could learn from.

Also check to see if the light seals around the film door have turned to sticky black goo or not.
If you are planning to shoot slide film, exposure accuracy is vital as I am sure you know, so a good service might be worth the money.

But if you want to shoot film modern 400ASA stuff tends to be forgiving.
Check the exposure reading (after fitting new batteries) against your digital bodies, that way you'll get an idea as to how far out it is.
My original MX is only 1 stop out and Fuji colour handles it OK.

Having looked out my old MX from the attic - I (re)discovered how nice it is.
Unfortunately the meter seems to be faulty (intermittent). I have decided to try and have it repaired and serviced.
My options seem to be Johnsons Photopia or Harrow Technical.
Can anyone provide feedback on which would be better for a camera of this vintage?
Is there someone else I should consider?
35mm film: MX (desire LX) and Nikon F100 (plus in storage P30 and Minolta Dynax 6)
Digital: Nikon D40
