An obliging leaf insect on the outside of my kitchen window. Shot with the Pentax MX-1 and using a Metz Mecalight 320 to illuminate the underside..

Not the most attractive portrait but very impressive
Steve

Sometimes I'm serious and sometimes not, but I consider sarcasm an artform. Which is it today?

I think the MX-1 is a fantastic camera which punches well above it's class with the images it produces, I never fail to be impressed with the results I get with it.

This image is another shining example of the images they can produce; well done

Nice shot.

I'd make the image pop a bit more by first reducing the EV of the whole image by 0.33 to 0.5 and slightly reducing saturation.

Then enhancing the body of the creature somewhat with an adjustment brush ( I note you use Lightroom ) with some EV, contrast and added saturation.

Just to give some more seperation between the subject and background.

Pœrilocapsus lineatus Fabr - What a great name for your pet cat!

"Here Pœrilocapsus lineatus Fabr! Here Pœrilocapsus lineatus Fabr!"

Although you'd end up calling it Fabr for short - or if you're pretentious ... "Pœrilo"

Ha! That would be a mouthfull.
The recently acquired kitten has been named 'Sumpy' owing to the fact that she stepped in a tray of sump oil a little while back and well, she's almost a black cat - like sump oil.

The background looks dull by comparison to the original. I prefer the more saturated bg in my version. I'm not a fan of too much contrast either, your version is a tad over done to my eye..
Thanks anyway smeggy, always interesting to see how others prefer their photos to look
PS: I wasn't sure on the rules about editing another members posted photo without their permission, I guess it's allowed here?

No problem We all have different tastes.

Well it's only done to illustrate constructive feedback on images posted in the forum and it doesn't irreversibly change the original. Indeed it's fairly common for peeps to post an edited version to help convey their constructive feedback on an image offered up for feedback.

Surely if you invite feedback by posting images then it's only a positive that someone's taken the time and energy to actually edit the pic to show their vision as words alone don't always convey an accurate message?

The rules here only cover people not contravening other people's copyright.

If someone posts a variation to be helpful, that's fine as long as the copyright holder is fine with it. If not, then it would have to be removed.

I think both version are equal, one being slightly more equal that the other.
