MX-1 lens won't retract

I used my MX-1 yesterday, took several shots, but when I tried to turn it off, the lens failed to retract. I can hear the sound of a motor working, but the lens remains extended. The camera shuts off normally apart from that.

I removed the battery, left the camera for a couple of hours and replaced the battery with a freshly charged one, but this made no difference. I reset the camera to the default settings, which also had no effect.

If anyone on here has experienced this problem with their MX-1, I'd be grateful for your advice.

Does the camera work (and focus) well otherwise?
