Abysmal response, in my opinion.

I can appreciate their view if it is “it worked when it left us and now it doesn’t while it’s with you”, but they are advertising warranties with goods without seemingly attempting to honour those. Also, in my opinion, even if something works when it’s left their site and it fails shortly after receipt by the recipient, it suggests it wasn’t working as it should beforehand.

Offering a discount on a future purchase over £250 is frankly insulting given their lack of support.

I don’t think I have bought anything from them previously but I’ll be thinking twice before I do (read: before I don’t).

Agree 200%. I've looked but not bought from them in the past. I'm now not even going to bother to look. Two reasons:
a. No confidence that they would deal with any problem adequately or even in accordance with legal obligations.
b. MPB's Terms and Conditions clause 11.6.3 ii, which makes MPB the sole arbiter of whether certain faults are due to accidental damage or misuse. IMHO this is an unfair term under UK law. (Consumer Rights Act 2015 clause 62.4 "A term is unfair if, contrary to the requirement of good faith, it causes a significant imbalance in the parties' rights and obligations under the contract to the detriment of the consumer.")

Come on MPB, smarten up your act - you're losing customers here!

I had a quote to sell them a lens recently and in-between sending and receipt the lens manufacturer announced a new model. I know condition is subjective but I have never had a problem with any lens I have sold (and I have sold a lot) but when it arrived they marked it down from mint to excellent and reduced the quote from £775 to £590 because of internal dust and marks on the body.

First off I know for a fact there was/is no dust or external marks and even if there were imo it would class the lens as a lot lower than excellent condition because a £185 drop would suggest as much.

After doing another recent quote on their website for the same lens (which was a lot lower) I came to the conclusion that rather than admit as such they would just blame me for mis description.

Anyway I asked for the lens to be returned, left a less than favourable review and got an email the next day basically sticking to their story but offering me a £10 discount on any purchase over £100

I've been lucky then. Recently I've dealt with MPB a few times, selling bodies and lenses. Each time they have valued items higher than the original quote after inspection. Also in my experience they offer better prices than other dealers. On the last occasion they offered a deal 82% higher than LCE, even though LCE would have had a part ex. compared to a straight sale for MPB

I've bought and sold a lot through MPB, all Canon and Nikon stuff. I've actually spent nearly £5000 on a lens (Nikkor 500mm f4 E FL) at MPB, I had hunted down one of these for a while but dealer after dealer I checked and asked whether lens squealed (a known issue) and they said it did not, but we will check, ah yes it does... the one I got from MPB was as new so I am happy. Sometimes they up value items I send, sometimes items are marked down.... same has happened with Park recently, 2 items marked down yet I see same items in lesser condition than mine advertised as excellent or as new...

Regarding Pentax gear I go through 2 retailers only, SRS and Cambrian. Unless it is one of the regulars on here moving stuff on.
