Have been using Thunderbird for a looong time
We switched when McAfee was randomly deleting the whole inbox of OE - a bug that was listed on the McAfee site but they hadn't/couldn't fix. We first switched to Thunderbird, then to Eset's Nod32 for AV.
Another advantage of Thunderbird is that your whole profile - emails, address book, everything - can be simply copied and migrated onto another machine. OE stuffs things all over the place (addressbook, emails, stuff in the registry etc, etc).
And, of course, if you switch to Mac or Linux then you can still run Thunderbird
Definitely an honourable mention

so far so good, a word of warning - don't import your old inboxes etc. unless you really need to. It took about half an hour on mine and I couldn't cancel when I remembered I could just open Outlook if I needed to refer to old emails.
Just import your settings and contacts and have a fast email client again!
Don't forget to go through the options, it sets itself up quite differently by default.

I have starded using a Mac fairly recently and rather than use Opera, which I didn't like, I decided to try Thunderbird. I was so impressed that I quickly installed it on my windows pc. It is easy to use and very intuitive with a good UI.

I used to use Opera and Eudora but when I got my new PC I decided to give Firefox and Thunderbird a try.
In some ways I still prefer Eudora to Thunderbird, and Opera to Firefox, but they are OK, I'll stick with them.
I have never used the Microsoft mail programs and only used IE on the odd occasion when a site didn't work with Opera/Firefox. One of my internet banking programs didn't work with either so I had to use IE. Luckily the updated version works fine with Firefox so IE is never used now.

Did you manage to import all your Eudora stuff into Thunderbird OK? (old emails, addresses etc?) I have been using Eudora for an age but now that it is no longer supported I need to shift over at some point.I used to use Opera and Eudora but when I got my new PC I decided to give Firefox and Thunderbird a try...
Thanks, Kris.

Kris, yes I (well the Bill Payer actually:blush imported everything from Eudora without a problem. As we were in the middle of arranging a holiday at the time it was vital to have all the relevant e-mails regarding flights etc and it worked just fine.
One thing I really like about both Firefox and Thunderbird are the spell checkers and that they both can do multiple languages. Firefox recognises when I'm on a Dutch forum and automatically spell checks in Dutch - that is cool. With T'bird I do have to change dictionaries for the different languages. I also like the fact that they offer UK English, not just US English.

Gwyn, thanks for the info. I shall bite the bullet sometime soon and hope it all works.
I too, like the spell checker in Firefox. It helps on fora like this! Curiously, though, it doesn't contain the word "Firefox"!
Best wishes, Kris.

I've used firefox since inception, but I use Forte's Agent as a dedicated e-mail client. However, seeing all this praise about Thunderbird, I downloaded it and set up an account. I can send from it, but when I send to it, only the title of the e-mail shows, it will not display the message body at all. Similarly, it will not print, nor print preview.
Any ideas what I've missed?
Update: Now solved!

The cure was to download Thunderbird, which I already use at home, and I just thought I'd give it an honourable mention. It downloads fast, loads all the e-mail settings automatically and imports the address book as well. Done and dusted and working within five minutes total.
It's very similar to OE in many ways, but it works and that has to be a bonus!
