You can use any Pentax K mount also known as PK, PK/A

Do you have the camera's user manual : I suggest you have a browse through it.

then you need to know this:
stick with the newest af and digital lenses.
using the older lenses is easy, if you have some tech/photo skills!

easy if enough to learn, if you're interested though!
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

what i'm after is a longer lens the one i have is a tamron 70-300, and i was thinking of trying to get a 500mm one but was not sure as to what mount my slr was. i'm also unsure of the one on ebay as i really haven't got a clue what i should look for.

Post a link to the one you are watching on E-bay and someone here will tell you if it will fit.

Most lenses listed on E-Bay will tell you what mount it is anyway.

If its a Canon, Nikon, Sony, Minolta, Olympus, then none of these will fit.
But if its a Samsung it will, as they use the Pentax K-mount.

Just to answer the question fully. Techno Geek mode engaged

The mount is PKAF2 crippled..

Which means it is the latest AF mount with the 2 additional electrical contacts within the mount which were initially used for the PowerZoom fuctions of the Z-series cameras, but the contacts on the K-series enables the use of SDM AF on the new lenses. Crippled means the aperture actuator has gone (redundant because of the loss of the aperture ring) and the iris is now fully electronic with FA-J and DA lenses......
However...

PowerZoom lenses (28-80, 28-105, 80-200, 100-300, all FA* Zooms) will zoom electronically on the K10D thanks to the 2 additional contacts but you won't get image size tracking or zoom burst, or the other mode..

You might get problems with exposure using lenses that are not PKA, or PKAF/PKAF2...ie M-mount or earlier because of the 'crippling' its a problem on the K10D I know, but not sure on the K100D

If you have lenses marked SDM and wish to add them to an older camera it can still utilise the screw drive AF, but the DA 17-70 only has SDM (no screw drive) and can't AF on older AF bodies (does that mean it's technically not PKAF2??? I wonder), but will do on the K100DS as long as the firmware is up to date

Finally, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES put a Ricoh lens or one marked PKR on your camera unless you want it on there permanently... there is apparently a recess on the mount with the AF screw can enter but not withdraw easily...

Enjoy the camera!!
