Most and least useful apps

The spirit level is useful and useless at the same time.
It actually works quite well on my phone however, it does not take into account that the lens protrudes to the rear by a few mm meaning the phone cannot sit flat.
Be careful of some "free" apps - they download adverts to fund them and some are known to override phone settings so you could find the apps downloading data when abroad.

The great thing about most smartphones are that they have some sort of GPS system built-in (Google Maps, for instance), and in my experience, most, if not all, add this GPS data to photos captured with the smartphone. Whilst the images themselves are acceptable, the gps feature makes it a lot easier when geo-tagging your DSLR photos in the likes of Flickr, rather than manually pinning your DSLR images to your Flickr map.

Sadly TPE is not available for Windows phones.
I use GPS app, which whilst not as good as TPE does the trick sort of.
I haven't put any photo apps on my phone.
A good sky map app is useful.
Don't forget to include ICE phone numbers, preferably on your lock screen (especially if your phone is password protected), so emergency services can reach someone in case of an emergency involving yourself.

I use DOFMaster (gd for hyperfocal distance) and Longtime (gd for nd filter calculations)... a simple compass app is also surpringly useful, as is the smartphone stopwatch...

I've been having fun finding ring tones for everyone on mine.
Not that they bother to ring since we all have Whatsapp, Skype and Viber .
