Moon shots @ 600mm & 1200mm!!

As I'm fully aware of how Murphy's law works and that we all want to shoot the full moon Saturday night at its closest for a couple of decades and that it's most likely to be cloudy (!), thought I would get my shots in earlier this evening whilst the sky was clear!

Took a few shots at 600mm, then put the 2x cheapo teleplus teleconverter on to get some shots at 1200mm as well. As a comparison, thought I would crop them the same to see what advantage, if any, the converter made.

See what you think and would love to see what you can come up with later this evening!!

Great shots there; I'm tempted to suggest the 600mm shot is the sharpest, looking at the detail in the edges, it seems to be the case.

This was my attemp last night with the Bigma:

Went out earlier this evening to try and get the moon rise to get the moon at it's largest. Got caught out though as it was nowhere near as bright as when I shot it last night combined with rushing and mucking up my settings!

As a result, nothing better than last night, with this being the best of the different shots





So, slightly disappointed, had a closer ( read sober! ) look at last nights shots and also realised that I could push the sharpening far further than I would normally feel comfortable with to end up with this one.

It was actually seeing your darker shot and seeing more detail that made me have a go at re-processing one of last nights shots!

Just took a look and the damn cloud is obscuring it.

Having photographed the moon many times, I love "Moonrise"

FWIW, the moon isn't larger when it rises, it is an optical illusion as there is more context than when it is high in the sky

You mean it isn't a balloon that deflates as it gets higher?
