Regardless I do my B&W conversions in Picasa.
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

AFAIK, you always shoot in colour. But in Replay Mode you have access to a built-in editor (four-way controller) where you can process the image in various ways, including b&w conversion, then save to new file.
At least this is how it works in K20/200D.
I suggest that you study the manual under Replay.

You'll get much better BW images shooting in colour and converting in PP.

Darn, in the "Filter-settings" it has the option to "Extrct Color", which is blooming amazing
