Fabulous colours, nicely done! Great first shot too
Are you shooting in raw or jpeg? Just wondering about sharpening.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I just need to work out how to get the other 50 to look like that one then and I am sorted (ha! ha!).
I have had my camera since January, but only just started to use it regularly and understand all the settings etc rather than just having it set on auto. I think buying the Zenitar lens really helped me in that respect with it being a manual lens and I have had to take a more hands on approach.
Cheers

Hi Thoughton, the photo is taken in raw and was handheld.
Do you think I should try and sharpen it up more in the raw conversion?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, if you are shooting in raw there is no in-camera sharpening at all, so you should sharpen (unsharp mask in photoshop).

Another image from the same day. It is not as good I don't think, but it gives you an idea of what the weather was like.

Lovely shots although the second one needs the horizon straightening.
Best wishes, Kris.

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Welcome! Very nice shots. I do think the first would benefit from cropping some of the excess sky off the top, though. At the moment the eye tends to wonder up there and get lost. You may want to try cropping it a bit above the sun, which I think then gives the shot more power as there is a clear focal point for the eye to be guided to and rest on, as well as conforming to the rule-of-thirds (IMHO).
Cheers

Let me know all your thoughts... I am a complete beginner and want to improve so any tips would be greatly appreciated.
The shot is taken using a Pentax K-m with a Zenitar 16/2.8. I know the iso was set to 200 but other than that I can't remember (sorry).
Thanks in advance.
