A few of my cat, Minx. Barely stops moving when the camera is out, coupled with black fur makes it a bit challenging to say the least!

If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

The flash was used. I'd seen some old portraiture online with a similar harsh shadowing (I think they were old theatre mug shots), and wanted to try and replicate it and put the cat in a human-type shot (it was a quiet day...!)

Very difficult to shoot black cats well, agree with points raised already, think you did well though.

I find #1 and #2 the best, #3 looks like the white fur is burnt-out.
Best regards

Number 1 for me, except the shadow is a bit of a bummer.

I like number 3, it could have been brilliant with the lovely dof and great focus on the head, but the burn out is bit overpowering.

Rather a regal creature - was it you that adopted this cat as a 'stray'? (and if so, who has done the 'adoption'?)...

Cheers for the comments guys.

My favourites are 1 and 2, I know the shadows aren't technically great, but for some reason I just like the shots. I think the white fur is overblown in 3 (it was a super bright day, and I jumped at the chance of a still cat!), though I may see if it's salvageable.

Minx came from Cat Rescue, she had a really rough life before coming to us, but two years in and I think she trusts us and the house feels like home. She's still a little skittish, but I think that's just part of her character.

Can't speak highly enough of Cat Rescue, they really made sure they were placing Minx with responsible people, two interviews and a home visit. Amazing when you consider that no checking is done before people bring a child into the world...

Does anyone remember the 'famous' Pentax AD that came out in their Hey Day and when they introduced Spot Beam
'Pentax - take a black cat in a coal cellar'
