Midges & biters!

A little tip I picked up recently; Use Avon's 'Skin So Soft' body Lotion.
The Midges & Nats etc hate the smell! Just smear a little on bare skin area's(No,I am not an Avon agent,honest!)

Many archaeologists in the US swear by it. My lady love's company used to buy it by the gallon!

We use it too. We got the tip first from a forest worker in Scotland, then from someone who works for Avon, and again this spring in the US a Forest worker said it works great against no-see-ums. Makes for some sweet smelling lumberjacks .
I passed some on to my son for our grandsons too - much more child friendly and effective than most things on the market.
The only place I wouldn't use it is in a malarial zone, when DEET would have my preference, kept well away from the camera of course since it melts plastic .

I got badly bitten by mosquitos in Canada (bit east of Vancouver) despite covering myself in supposedly the most powerful inspect repellent available.

If theres anything about that bites, it bites me, so thanks for the info.

I once had my sunglasses melt onto my face with DEET! Body Shop mens moisturiser is a pretty effective midge repeelent too.

deet melts camera plastics and rubber....

used 98% deet when working in the arctic....as a joke, we'd spray it on somebodies backpack, while hiking, and wait for his gear to fall through...as it ate hole through the nylon..

but in someplaces, the skeeters are with deet like I am with scotch...I know it's bad for me, but I drink it anyways...

years back OFF came out it was about 10% deet....
then there was Deep Woods OFF at about 40% deet...
the stuff we used (muskol 98%deet) we refferred to as F@#ck OFF!!!!!!
yes the bugs are that bad in some places in Canada.

If you click on the SKin-so-soft range then scroll down you will see Skin-So-Soft Fresh & dry oil body spray. That's what we use. It is unsurprisingly #1 in their best sellers list (which you can also click on).

I see on the US Avon Site they have Skin-so-soft bug repellent. They are not allowed to call it that in the UK however.

They added a known insect repellent IR 3535 and produced a new range called Skin So Soft Bug Guard PLUS. Seems to be available on Amazon link

Deep Woods OFF is the one I used in Canada. Didn't bloody work! I'll look out for F@#ck OFF next time.

I think it must be only certain plastics and rubbers that are harmed by Deet. I couldn't help getting some on my fingers - that must have ended up on my camera and lenses, and they survived ok.

Its only the female midges that bite so try to avoid them and you'll be fine! In Canada, they call them noseeums!
