If Pentax ever get around to their (road mapped for this year) HD Pentax-DA 135-380mm f/4-5.6 ED [IF] DC WR I'll be considering changing my well used 55 - 300 DA. That will nicely complement my 18 - 135 DA DC WR I have now.
Cost, size and weight preclude the big aperture telephoto options for me as I chose Pentax for a kit that squeezed nicely into a small shoulder bag.
PS Have you entered the AP draw...

Have you considered the Sigma 120-400 for £480 at SRS? I'd love this lens myself as the extra 100mm reach would make all the difference both for wildlife and at airshows.

I have a Sigma 135-400mm, a good lens and it cost me £220 a couple of years ago, might be worth having a hunt for one.
To be honest I don't use it, but can't sell it either due to my new years resolution.

The Pentax 60-250, which is the one that I would probably opt for if money were no object, is beyond my price range, and I don't think I need something as big as the Sigma 150-500.
What would people suggest? Anything no longer made that I should consider?
