MG won't wind

I recently dug up a Pentax MG from my loft. In the box was a letter from Jessops about a faulty winding lever. The problem is that if you try to to wind on the film it takes several clicks of the lever which winds the film round several times so you can only get about 3 pictures from a 24 exposure film. I apologize for being such a noon at film cameras and using the wrong terminology but i hope a more experienced user can help. Thanks

I still need to pluck up courage to try it but as my MG only cost a fiver complete with 50mm lens (which is fine) I guess I have nothing to loose attempting it.
