depends all the 4GB's ive seen lately have been nicely priced. if your going to be doing any sort of action shots, it might be worth getting some of Sandisks Ultra II's, cause they re a bit faster than the class 6 ones. Ive just ordered another 4gb one myself.

Avoid all class 2's and 4's. class 6 are fine though.

the only difference is sd only goes up to 2gb and sdhc is for anything larger.

I thought that Ultra's were class 4 and it was the Extreme III that was class 6, or am I wrong

If you use SDHC make sure you have a reader for it or that you have the cables to read direct from the camera as older SD readers will not read SDHC but SDHC readers are backwards compatable. CHEERS Vic.
PS Most new (modern) computers with card readers built in read SDHC> Vic.

Worth looking at 7dayshop.com for SDHC cards - Class 6 Kingston 4Gb cards 6.50 post free for 1, as little as 5.50 for 5 . Kingston 8Gb Class 6 a touch under £12. Used both the 4Gb Class 4 & 6 with my K10 and K20 with no problems.

Maybe theyre based off these but their speeds are much higher. Ultra II are meant to be 15mb read/write and the ultra III's are 30mb read/write. probably dont always work at the speed. but compared to the no name brands and most medium grade cards.
These are the SD card standard speeds: http://www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/speed_class/

Class 2 - 2mb's
Class 4 - 4mb's
Class 6 - 6mb's

I bought a cheap no name brand one in a rush before going on holiday and its super slow. Unless they are high quality and are rated at a different speed ie the Ultra's. Class 6 are fairly vital.

Thankfully my new K20D has a nice big buffer, but on my K100D the really slow card caused huge slow downs. Took 3 bracked photos recently and the camera stalled after the 2nd cause it was writing data. On the K20 you can keep shooting but the SD light stays on for ages afterwards as it moves the files from the Buffer to the SD card.

I buy the 4Gb Sandisk Extreme III from Play, they are currently £12.49 (free p&p), though the last ones I bought didn't come with the card reader and software.

Extreme III's are 20mb/s, there is however a "video" edition which has 30mb/s.
The speeds you mention with the speed classes are the minimum speeds for that class.
