Make sure that the batteries are the right way round (flat side down if I remember correctly, as you look into the battery chamber.) The LEDs should light up if you are set on auto or M settings, but won't on B or flash 100X settings. A slight pressure on the shutter release should be enough to activate the meter and light up the LEDs.

You really need an instruction book, and you can find the details on other threads in this forum.

Hope the problem is simple and doesn't need a repair.
Best regards, John

Hi,
You can download a copy of the MES manual from http://www.pentax-manuals.com
If the meter is dead, try talking to Michael Spencer. There is a link on the website for him. He charges around £46.50 to sort an MES which is about the cheapest going and I have found him to be very pleasant and reliable.

On the subject of eBay, I do feel that the number of sellers trying to pass off "dud" photo kit is increasing. It has always been a problem with so called "untested" computer bits but in the past most photo sellers were sound. I have found recently that many items in "perfect working" order need a service of some sort. As a result for some of the older screwmount bodies, I go for the in need of service/ jammed ones and then get Michael to sort them out for me especially as he tends to get the fully working ones as well!

Regards
Kim
