Is 'Marshmallow Bush' a real nickname for the Althea? The black and white has come out nicely, although I (of all people!) wonder how it would look in colour (and, inversely, how the first would fare in b&w).

I too would like to see a coour version of the second and a b/w of the first. Contrary of me but there you go.

And yes the althea is the marshmallow plant, and gives the squidy sugar laden things their name. https://morningchores.com/growing-marshmallow/

Thanks for the link, Gwyn. They grow like mad in my garden and I've been taking them for granted ever since we bought our place. Just tasted a flower - delicious! I will be gathering and drying leaves for herbal tea tomorrow morning!

Now that is a quick response! I think I have a slight preference for the second set, but they are definitely all worthy, and work out quite differently between each of their two versions.

I love the second one in colour. It has the feel of an old Dutch painting with a fantasic use of light and shade. Beautiful.

Great photos either way. If I had a preference it would be colour just because the colours are so good.
