Manfrotto

Can somebody recommend a ball head for my Manfrotto 055ProB.

It depends on many things - how much do you want to pay being perhaps the most important - a good ball head often costs more than the tripod it sits on, and frequently more than the camera it supports.
Consider how heavy the gear is it will need to support - this will affect what you buy too. And the weight of it - the ball head plus camera/lens mustn't be more than the maximum your tripod can carry.
What sort of quick release, if any, do you want? The "standard" is the Arca-Swiss style. Manfrotto have several different types, none of which is an Arca Swiss type.
If you decide on an Arca Siss type QR then you need to look at Really right Stuff, Markins (Nikonians are the importers for Markins), or even Benro, but there are others.

I have a Markins Q3 which I am very happy with. I got it for a good price ut normally they are expensive.

I'm not familiar with this tripod, so I can't say whether the attachment would be compatible or not, but I've used a Slik AF2100 for many years, and it's been superb in every way. I still have the original pan/tilt head that came with the tripod, but I never used it after getting the AF2100.

I was amazed to discover they still exist... at least 15 years (possibly 20) later.

There may well be an improved model now, but I've never needed to upgrade.

I use this Manfrotto one and find it nice and sturdy.

I've also got a Giottos Fluid Ball Head spare if it takes your fancy, brand new (unwanted star-letter prize) - it's the MH7302-720 model.

But back to your original question, I like the Manfrotto head, serves me well with my 055ProB.

I use the 488RC2 (midi) ball head with my 055PROB. I also use a 190D tripod with 484RC2 (Mini) ball head.

Of the two ball heads, I much prefer the 488RC2. It's larger and heavier than the 484RC2 head which means it can stabilise a greater weight of camera & lens combo. It also has a separate lock for the panning motion, something which the 484RC2 lacks.

The 484RC2 is good for up to 4Kg load, the 488RC2 goes to 8Kg. I'd still prefer the usability of the 488RC2 for your setup.
