Great shots.
This has been on my list of places to visit for a while now.
Which lens were you using?

Hi Percy,
Sigma 100 - 300 F4 @ between 100mm to 135mm and these have had a small crop. Mid Point on Cad West, TBH, don't need massive lenses unless your at the top or want to shoot the aircraft approaching, but then your stuffed if you want the full aircraft knife edge for example.

Thanks for that Chris.
I'll take my 100-300 when I go, and maybe try the 60-250 as well (or borrow a mate's Sigma 70-200 - sounds as though that could be the ideal lens for this)

Hi Percy,
certainly take and prob use the Sigi 70- 200, although I don't find the 100 - 300 at all heavy, as I was shooting at 100mm ish, I used my 70 - 200 F2.8 on my second day, just for the extra stop and easier handling.

Impressively sharp - I'll be very pleased if I can capture something as good as that . . . . . . . . . . . . I'd better get out and practice my technique
Is it worth using a monopod for this kind of shot?

Impressive angles and perspectives! I presume you were on hill-top level to the height that the aircraft were flying over the lake?

Yes, as they leveled out they either went straight over the lake and exited the loop, or banked left and continued, these we shot about 1/2 way up the quite steep bit going towards the first stile.

Nice set of images Chris. Shame we didn't meet up as I was out that day, in fact was up 3 days that week. As it's on my doorstep I'm up at least once if not twice or more days a week.
You may or may not be aware I tend to stick with the Da 300 and yes 300mm is a but tight on Cad West but to landlock larger jets such as the Tornado and F15's(more so F15) you need to be near the top fence line.
A 100-300/ 70-200mm are both good options for this location as well as for the opposite side Cad East and same for Bwlch viewpoints. Corris you need 300mm really to get a decent crop out of it.
Like I've mentioned before, Anyone wishing to visit and unfamiliar with the area are more than welcome to pm me and if I'm free will happily meet up and guide you to some locations.

I was promising myself to go this year but haven't managed that yet. Looking at the photos I sure regret that.

Hi Greg, it really is excellent, you'll prob spend much of the time chatting and banter with many togs on the hill, for no more than 25 seconds of action, but its worth it
