Mac or P.C.?

Everybody here knows I'm a Machead.
people often debate mac vs pc and ask which to buy.
Well here's an interesting tidbit for ya'all.
What ever you decide on, it pays to stick with one brand, and preferably one dealer.

I got an iMac g5 that bit the biscuit last week.
3.5 years old, out of warrenty.
Failed logic board.
Cost to replace? $976.00 plus labout $75.00/hr.
One call to apple canada.....
(after reviewing the list of hardware/software we've bought over the last five years.....(lotz....$$$$))

"Bring it to your dealer, we appreciate your business. We'll make an exception, and have that fixed. No Charge." Josh, Customer Relations, Apple Canada.....

Weight that when you're debating what to buy.....

Give me a PC with Windows XP SP2 anytime. It's cheaper, and more people are familiar with the software (i.e. easier to get help).

The days when Mac was superior graphic-wise are long gone.

A logic board's the motherboard, yes? £500?!?

Good that they said they'd do it for free, but I should think they could afford to, if the average Joe gets charged that!

They get ripped off for PC repairs we get ripped off on the software.

in six years only one problem one phone call, repaired for free, even out of warrenty.
irregardless of the cost of replacement parts, I've never had or heard of any pc shop going that far, to make a customer happy. Six years..no viruses/spyware/spamed up mailboxes, random crashes, hardware/software crashes..... First problem, one phone call.

How do you avoid spam mail with a Mac If that is really true you might just have won me over

To be honest, I don't do much of anything. I use a few rules on my inbox to bounce some stuff..the mail program learns as it goes...then takes over, automattically bouncing the junk. .I get five or six emails a month, I forward them on to [email protected], and Apple blocks them.
I use yahoo, to create throwaway email accounts for use with any sites/companies that need email for registration/short term accounts. (like say I want to register software or buy something online) they can spam that all they want....not my problem.

Well, that means that Mac email clients are not different from any other clients.
My spam is filtered out by the company server or by Google mail. And Thunderbird does a good job as well when you train it for a few days.
I'm not even bothering using throwaway accounts...

The spammers, however, are your problem as well. They eat up bandwidth and by far outnumber ham these days. All that spam traffic bandwidth has to be paid for. By us, the users. So it is our problem...

I shop for motorcycle parts, robot/electronics parts, from all kinds of places....so for me I just use throw away acounts...better safe than sorry.
but like I said, if yahoo or google want to go after spammers great! not my area of expertise....
I only get a half dozen or so a month on average, any that look like smut or phishing scams I forward on to apple.
How many do you guys get on average per month? I wouldn't know what windoze is like, but hear scary stories...

Well, on Google mail I get about 4 or so a day. At work it's more like 150 a day. But that really has nothing to do with PC or Mac. If I would use a Mac to connect to the servers it would be exactly the same.

Once or twice a day I go to the spam folder (where they are automatically put by the server) and delete the messages that Thunderbird identified as spam (as I quite frequently get e-mail newsletters and stuff that the server falsely identifies as spam).
So from the user side I'm also not really bothered by it.

Because my work account is proudly listed on the college web pages I get hundreds of spam messages a day. My personal hotmail account I get possibly a couple a week. It is nothing to do with Mac v. PC but how you use and distribute your address. Put it out there on an open web page and you're stuffed. Personally I would send spammers to the lowest pits of hell for eternity.
