M40mm f2.8

The manual pancake lens, a good walkaround for the understated photographer. The lens is in good condition. There's a bit of brassing on the front rim of the aperture ring, not too much and it is otherwise cosmetically fine. I would say there are faint traces of oil on the blades and I've tried to show these in the images. But it's nothing to worry about as the aperture is good and snappy and everything works as it should. The optics are clean and the focus smooth. £40 plus post at cost.

I had a look on ebay as I thought I might have overpriced it but actually I think it's good value based on recent sales.

I've never really explored this lens in truth, only ever used it for a few shots which I now can't find. I do remember thinking it is better than the reviews might suggest. And it is titchy.

I'm surprised this hasn't sold. When I was looking for one of these a while back they were going for more. It is a lovely little lens and goes especially well on something like an ME Super. This is one of mine shot wide open so you can see what it's like. (I hope you don't mind, Dr.)

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Hi Kris, of course not. The prices do seem to be a bit cyclical. Not so far back they seemed to be going for around £80. At the moment I'm more concerned about making some lens cupboard space but if it doesn't sell I'll just wait until demand goes up again.

That's a good looking shot, I might well take the lens out for a spin around town later on.

I took it for a quick spin on my trip to the library and I was very pleasantly surprised. This is the worst reviewed M series prime over at the other place but I just don't get it. I found this lens to have very nice colour indeed and good tonality. Having a pixel peep at leaves showed good resolution and no ca evident (a good thing as ca is one of my bugbears). Some corner softness below f5.6 but no biggie there, just a case of learning how to best use the lens. It was very nice to use. If unsold I shall withdraw it from sale on Thursday and hang on until prices pick up again. I'd happily keep this lens but I am on a ruthless campaign to limit myself to ten lenses and I have the FA43 in preference to an M40.

Unusual but this was the only crop that made sense here:

This is my favourite walk-round lens when shooting film (OK I haven't got the 43 Ltd), just the right focal length. Surprised it hasn't gone for this price to be honest.

John.
