M 200mm f4 around the garden

Having acquired an M 200mm f4 as a macro tube lens, it seemed worth giving it a quick trip or two around the garden to see how it behaves for normal use. I was pleasantly surprised with the results when it was stopped down a bit and had the right light (not too dim) and subject (nothing to trigger fringing). See what you think. All with a K3iii.

Thoughts, comments etc. welcome as usual.

Yes, 2 and 3 are brilliant shots.

1 is a little flat while 4 is a good demonstration of thr sharpness (and shallow DOF of a longer lens)

3 is particularly nice. I have to admit to having given up on this lens, I simply couldn't get along with it. You get along with it very well as these shots clearly demonstrate!
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Thanks folks. It's my first and only pre-A lens so an interesting experiece for me. It won't be replacing any of my other lenses for plant and flower photography, though - not least because MF with an f4 lens and my eyesight is a bit of a challenge!

Indeed. I took several shots both before and after the rain, none of them seemed quite right and I couldn't fix it in post processing. Couldn't make out whether it was due to the flat light, the lens, camera settings or the user.

A bit of an exaggeration there - you haven't seen the ones that I'd rather people didn't see ...

It's no slouch Steve - very capable and lovely soft colours as that first shot demonstrates!

Where do you get all these lenses from

If you have not used many older manual focus lenses before, I would suggest for accurate focussing, use LV zoomed to 100% (need a tripod)

And very reasonably priced, too .

Good suggestion. Viewfinder focus with the M 200mm seemed much more tricky than with the (manual focus) Irix 150mm macro. I put it down to f4 rather than f2.8 but perhaps ergonomics comes into it, too - the focus ring on the Irix has always been my all time favourite .
