Let's have a little sub-competition of eclipse shots from tonights event. I'm only putting this forward 'cos it's cloudy here and I won't get to see it

Maybe all you Canadians stand the best chance. At least you won't miss any sleep to see it!

Would love to, but the snow came in today and clouds with it. Skies have been clear for past week and a half... until today.
Actually moon poked out briefly, and I realized how BAD my zoom lens is. Cannot focus worth a darn.
Well, if I get anything I'll post anyway, just for the humor of it all. Argh...

Clouds will do that, especially when you don't want them. But if you want a nice thin covering of cloud for some outside portraits............not one to be seen!

No clouds, just poor quality lens.

Funny, the clouds parted, and clear skies remain. Getting some "nice" shots... for now... Unfortunately the lens is so soft the results will likely be rather disappointing. Might as well be behind clouds.

Oh well, maybe I'll have a better lens for the next eclipse in 2010.
Of course, cant quite justify a great 300mm+ lens for one use every three years.

This is what I've got so far. The single images were not great by any stretch, but thought they may be OK if I keep it small and make a composite. (OK, really small!)

[Edit]
Here's what I've got. Not too bad...

I think that's an excellent composition, reminds me of the sort of thing you'd get in a book illustration.

Super composition. The colours are fascinating. The red is caused by sunlight being refracted through the earths atmosphere onto the moon.

That is very nice! I got some too, but have not had time to work on them. I was going to try and combine 3 exposures and see how it looked.
