I was incredibly lucky with this went to a field where I got some donkeys last year , fortunately the camera was round my neck and not in the bag I suddenly spotted this and grabbed a shot [ thank goodness for the Tamron ] it just stood for a few mins and I got a couple more and then it moved behind the herd of cows

Nice shot... we don't have any cute wild things
like that around where I live.... probably made
pies out of em' years ago

Mike's edit has improved it considerably, but I
wonder why it was so light in the first place?

The shutter speed of 1/25th sec. on the Exif
doesn't sound right?

What a great opportunity. Well done for getting the shot.

I do agree that Mike's edit has improved it though.

How did the lessons in PSE go?

Urgh - well they really didn't the expert was diverted onto other stuff But I'm slowly starting to play with it

Mike - just what did you do to that ? I'd already edited it a bit - and the others still need to be done ?

I really couldn't believe my luck getting it - it was just looking at me and once the camera was up I didn't dare move .

As to the deer - I think it's a young one as the antlers are still a bit woolley / fluffy . I'd never have got it with the 18-55 - so this proves that the Tammy is my holiday lens for all trips in future

I decided the first one was beyond me, I am not much good at constructing heads.

These are only quick and dirty edits but with the original large files you should be able to do better.

Mike, I think T-T would like some advice on how you achieved your edits, so she can have a go herself and learn a bit.

Thanks Gwyn - spot on

I'm starting to play with PSE - but I can't seem to get the depth of colour that Mike is managing.

Actually I got a telling off later when it was spotted that I didn't have a CPL on - I was told it would help with the ghastly grey skies we had .

Once all these decorator men have gone I'll be able to sit down and deal with the pics and put them on my Gallery .

A CPL would have absolutely no effect whatsoever with gray skies and, all other things being equal, you would be shooting at 1/6th second or so which is far too long an exposure withe such a lens.

I'm surprised you are shooting at +0.7EV - I usually have to underexpose not overexpose with the Kx! The antlers look a little blown-out so I'd suspect its slightly overcooked as a result, but possibly recoverable if you have a RAW.

I don't know how PSE works, but looks like you basically want to increase the Colour Saturation and Blacks. And crop out the left-foreground post in the first shot, of course.

Don't think a CPL would have made much difference, except make you shoot slower... then again, going up to ISO-400 would offset this, and give you the optimum dynamic range for the Kx.
Still shooting in the dark (literally and metaphorically)...

Flossie and Algi

Though I'm starting to try and go manual for speed I still tend to use AV - and as a result only set the Aperture - the rest the K-x does for me

Why did I shoot at +0.7EV - I dunno - I'm not aware of doing anything with that

Cropping is the last thing I tend to do so that intrusive post would have gone .

I'll admit to still being doubtful about choosing the correct Aperture setting for conditions - I'll often take 2 shots and change the f stop for the second to see which turns out best

Lovely shots Techno and made much better by Mike's "dirty" edits! Made me smile because I missed a pair of red deer grazing just off the path in the Quantocks. Had the K100 but the memory card was at home in the computer...
Best wishes,

Andrew
