Loyalty

Just a thought which I`m sure all you wiser and more attuned will be able to help me with.........................why, considering the pedigree of the company and the world beating innovations over the years , does every newshound,paparazzo,hack and snooper seem to use a C*non or a N*kon in preference to our beloved Pentax gear ?
Every time I turn on News 24 they are there clicking away with their cams regardless of the country or subject being covered . I always make a point of looking and have yet to see a Pentax - even my daughter when she did her Metropolitan Police Field Intelligence training was issued with C*non - she was not happy with the buttons or anything - she`s got an ESII an MZ50 and a iphone ( well nobody is perfect ! ).Just a thought and I`m sure you will fill me in - not that it`s a problem - I ain`t goin nowhere..............................

Because Canon and Nikon spend a lot of money ensuring all the 'togs you see on TV are carrying their kit. Much of it is provided at heavily discounted rates to news agencies, etc and if you happen to break your Canikon out in some remote wilderness you'll be assured that a repair facility will be operating nearby and willing to loan you a replacement in the meantime. Given all that why would pros (of the news variety) want to go anywhere else?

The downside is that Canikon owners of the amateur variety (that's probably 99%+ of the user base) pay over the odds to subsidise what is, effectively, a slick advertising operation. Pentax give nothing away, but then you're not paying a surcharge to cover the cost of one of Wapping's finest having a 1000mm lens to take pics of Cheryl Cole stumbling out of a club either. As an amateur myself I'm quite happy with that...

At the moment Nikon are actually allowing Canon pro users the chance to swap by giving them free like for like equipment.

If a pro needs a 600mm f4 (or whatever) lens for a job there is normally somewhere for them to rent one .. not so with Pentax.

Sounds convincing to me - I`m even more glad I`m a Pentaxion now - it makes me feel much better about my superior taste !!

Thanks hefty1 - I`m going to dust all the kit tonight SV1a,ES,ESII,Spotmatic 1000,ME Super,MZ5n,*istD and K20 and all my lenses too - lovely stuff ..................................
