I have the FA 100mm Macro and I think I can speak for anybody else that has this lens, I'm not parting with mine.

For info: I got it for £400 . . . together with the accompanying *istD and 2 X 2Gb Lexar Pro CF cards. One of my better bargains.

Why not just get a new Tamron 90mm 1:2.8 Macro or a Sigma 105mm EX Macro?

They are £280 here in the UK, no idea about Australia.

I think they are better options than the current Pentax macro lenses as they offer a focus limiter.

If i want to buy the Sigma or the Pentax they retail here in Aust for around £350 very expensive, and they never come up on E-bay, I guess people don't want to part with them.
So you recommend the Sigma over the Pentax

If I were you, I would look out for a Pentax F or FA 100mm 1:2.8 macro on Ebay. Or, if money is tight, get an M or A 100mm 1:4.

If you can't get a Pentax, the various flavours of the Tamron 90mm macro are very good.

Thats what i am trying to do George but they are very scarce in Aust. I have seen several on E-bay in the UK and the US so i think i will be buying from you guys. And your prices are lot more reasonable. I have come to the conclusion that you must have rocks in your head to buy lenses in retail stores in Australia, the prices are outrageously expensive.
So all my lens purchases will be international from now on.

Do you have import duty and/or sales tax to pay when importing to Australia from the USA?

I too can recommend the Tamron 90 mm macro. Apart from the focus limiter, I find the focal length very attractive on a camera with 1,5 crop factor. It doubles as a great portrait lens.
The lens receives very good reviews and is considerably cheaper than the Pentax or Sigma offering.

Roger.

The Sigma and Tamron are the same price (give or take a £5) in the UK. I can recommend the Sigma, but haven't used the Tamron.

FWIW: In The Netherlands the price difference is about 100 - 150 euros.

Thanks guys i will just keep my eyes open and hope i get lucky.
What annoys me when i walk into a camera store in Aust and ask for a price on a lens they all say the same thing $800 £350 or there abouts no matter what the brand. I think we Aussies are getting the rough end of the stick, we are last to get any new releases and are slugged at premium prices

Obviously got no idea how good a store it is, but I was just googling australian camera shops and found this:

http://www.camerastore.com.au/Tamron+SP+AF90mm+F%2F2.8+Di+Macro+Pentax+Mount-details.htm

Works out at £264, which is cheaper than in the UK.

Dan I e-mailed that store in regards to stock and the 4 lenses i enquired about were all out of stock. I have a feeling they ship from off shore, most likely Malaysia.
