Went on a walk a few weeks ago (yes, I am still months behind on PP

) and was trying out yet another recently-acquired Vivitar 28mm Close Focus lens. (Sold my last two, then found this one for an irresistible price!)

Used several LightRoom 'digital grad filters' on this, which is unusual for me. How does it look?

It looks like you have used several LightRoom 'digital grad filters -

Heheh thanks. I was only asking as it seemed quite grey once I uploaded it. Could have sworn it didn't look like this in LR

Its a great shot Tim, splendid , but i did think a little darker may well have improved it?

I did a levels adjustment, which I think has improved it?

Thanks Colin! I think you're right the darker ground looks better. Darkening it has emphasised some halos in the clouds I think (which were also in my grey version but I've only just noticed doh), I'll see what I can do about that.

Tim, I'm reluctant to suggest this, and I like your style and lots of your images but may I humbly suggest, it's a bit boring.

If there were just the two discrete clouds in the centre it might be slightly better, but the clouds on the RHS just get chopped. Apart from the HDR style tonality and 1/3 comp, there is not enough doing, for me.

I'm not getting much essential Tim-ness out of this. Sorry.

Hah no problem Doug, thanks for telling it like it is!

I agree this isn't particularly earthshaking

but I'm working through my photos from the last few months and this was the only half decent one from this particular outing, so I thought I'd see what i could make of it

I do wish this part of Essex wasn't so flippin' flat though!

I did a project on bikes and after several shoots and over 400 images I junked the whole lot so damn boring. Doh.

Essex has got more character than my old stamping ground Cheshire which my wife says is positively hilly, she being from Lincs.

I'm a fan of your photos Tim but I have to agree that this lacks interest. Maybe some prominent foreground ears of (I think) wheat would have added some interest.

Thanks for the comments, I'll try and come up with some foreground interest next time! ("Son, run through that tall wheat!" haha)

I do occasionally look for stray wheat stalks that somehow stand out from the others but they are surprisingly hard to find! Although I did once find a nicely curved one - that became my second ever PPG acceptance
