Llangollen Spring Steam Gala 2016

Just got back from a long weekend in Chirk, near to Llangollen. It's not far from us, but far enough to feel like we've been away. Anyhow; I hadn't realised when booking that it was the weekend of the Steam Gala (Honest! Although the Mrs doesn't believe me!).
So, I bought tickets to ride and took my camera.

Here are some of the day.
C&C welcomed.

A nice set. I particularly like the last one.

Very nice Ted, there is just something special about steam trains. All good but like Percy I like the last one best too!

Nice shots Ted

I hadn't realised that was on, I was however, in Chirk on Saturday morning as my lad plays football for Chirk Youth

I like the one in the control box a lot
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

If I'd known, I'd have stopped by
We stayed at the caravan site by the castle. It's not far from home.
As this was advertised as the Spring gala, I'm hoping there might be a summer one.
Maybe a chance for a meet?
Getting there! Thanks to you guys

You could give me a shout next time you are in our neck of the woods

We are 5 mins from Llangollen and roughly the same from Chirk

I'll definitely be back down that way, so I may just take you up on that.

I came down to this on Friday afternoon, just for a couple of hours at Llangollen itself, but haven't done anything with the photos yet, I'll open a separate topic when I get a minute. You've got some nice different stuff, mine is mainly loco shots from bridges and platforms. Is the signal box at Carrog open to the public generally?

There's a select of special weekends across the year, I've applied to display the car at Classic Transport Weekend in July, then there's the Autumn Steam Gala at the beginning of September.

I might have seen you on the bridge by the station. There was a guy there with a Pentax, but I was with the Mrs, so didn't stop to say Hi.

Don't know if the signal box is usually open. But they were happy for me to go in when I asked.

I saw one person with a white DSLR, which I assume was a Pentax, but no-one else, though I do keep a look out. I was mainly up there, and on the platform for a bit, so it could have been me. I've already seen some other photos on another forum where I'd been cropped out of the bottom edge. Small world.

Having reviewed my photos I'm not sure there's many worth posting - I was experimenting with expose-to-the-right and I think I might have overdone it.

Excellent set Ted. I really like the Llangollen Railway after being there three or four times in the past few years. Its in such beautiful countryside.

Yes, last one for me too
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
