Llandaff Cathedral

Since taking up photography I find myself visiting local attractions that I've never bothered with before. I thought I'd share a few from Llandaff Cathedral. It was only a fleeting visit but I'll definately be returning, as I saw plenty of pleasing images in my minds eye (providing my brain calculated the imaginary environmental conditions correctly) & I haven't even seen the interior yet.

These 2 were taken as an excuse to break out my new (to me) DA14mm - certainly nothing wrong with its resolving power.

We enjoyed a brief stroll through the graveyard, I'll definately be returning here too as it is quite large with many old stones & unfortunately (but photographically pleasing) parts of it are being reclaimed by nature.

Funny that, I was in cardiff today and found myself looking at St Davids stained glass from the outside wondering if I could get permission to try some shots from inside.

These shots are outstanding. Love the black & white, some things are just perfect for it.

I love the first one, the sky is so catchy.
With the second photo, I'm thinking that it might look better if you crop the window away from the right side, it just bring in more peace in the photo. But surely a wonderfull shot, quite dreamy.

i too like the first photo...lovely strong colours and contrast.

Very nice images - I just wonder whether a focal length of 13mm or maybe 15mm might have been better

Lol, that's why I decided to replace this particular 14mm lens with a 12-24, sometimes I just prefer the versatility to a prime!

Yes, all good thanks. The grass is always greener as they say but I don't regret trading the 12-24 for the 14. These are not the kind of shots I wanted the 14 for, I'd been frustrated by the close-focus ability of the 12-24 on a number of occasions when I wanted to capture something up close whilst giving the background some perspective distortion. When I come across a suitable opportunity I'll post it up to illustrate what I mean.

I've settled on primes to try & instill some discipline into my photography. I usually have little patience, but with photography I seem to have it in abundance. So the extra time swapping lenses & getting my position sorted isn't an issue for me. Of course I may well miss a few "kodak moments" this way but c'est la vie !

Excellent B&W of the grave stones, good definition, must put it my list to visit.

Well i'm currently working the graveyard shift at work.
Rees, there are some fantastic stones there, let me know when you're planning a visit and if I'm free I'll tag along. Karl, make sure you share your shots with us. I'm hoping for a cemetery theme in a comp soon !

I'll let you know Bob, I have not been to Cardiff for a long time, meanwhile I shall be looking closely at graveyards, with my camera of course and if I think there are any good shots, will definitely post here, but not sure how to. Have posted in the main gallery, but never in a forum.

Number 2 for me as it removes the odd sky colouring lower left and anyway the subject seems to lend itself to B&W although it has acquired more of the second tower than #1 which is a pity.
