How do I know if the lithium battery needs to be replaced? I can't get the finder to give me a reading

Which camera is this for?

I would just try a new battery anyway if the camera is not working at all.

This questions regards a Pentax 645. Manual says the battery must be replaced at an authorized repair shop

The lithium battery powers the memory circuit that retains exposure settings. If your settings are not holding after the camera is switched off and on again then this battery needs replacing by Pentax.

I think this only applies to the original 645.

I think you can do it yourself but I never had to, the battery housing is in the bottom cover. You need a special tool to open the battery compartment but I'm sure you can buy it from Maplins or similar.

Are you seeing the display in the viewfinder and the top LCD display?
